Pharrell Williams will sit in the big red chair once occupied by CeeLo Green on NBC’s “The Voice” next season.
The Grammy-winning producer was previously an advisor to Team Usher on season four of “The Voice,” and performed the hit single “Blurred Lines” with Robin Thicke on the show last May.
“It’s been a huge year for Pharrell, with recognition for his contribution in the world of music — the ‘Despicable Me’ franchise soundtracks, his Oscar-nominated song ‘Happy’ and his Grammy-winning collaboration with Daft Punk on the breakout dance hit ‘Get Lucky,’” said Paul Telegdy, President, Alternative and Late Night Programming for NBC Entertainment.
“His dominance in record sales in 2014, coupled with his incomparable accomplishments in the world of fashion and design, make him an irresistible addition to ‘The Voice’ family.”
”The Real Housewives of Atlanta” star Kenya Moore actually called 911 moments after Porsha Williams allegedly attacked her at Thursday’s reunion taping. TMZ posted audio of the call, where Kenya is heard deadpanning, “I’ve just been assaulted.” She answers the dispatcher’s questions with about as much urgency as a snail. “She hit me in my head,” Kenya eventually said. ”
We had a bad feeling about this when we saw this week’s episode of “Scandal” and now it’s being reported by Eben Gregory that our suspicions were possibly correct and that the “Scandal” creator Shonda Rhimes was sending a serious message to actor Columbus Short about getting his life together. As we previously reported, Columbus Short recently found himself in trouble with the law in the last month or so for domestic battery of his spouse and for getting into a bar fight a few weeks ago. A source close to production on Scandal allegedly told Hip Hollywood, “Shonda Rhimes doesn’t “tolerate negative press” and she “issued him a warning to get his personal issues sorted out. We are told that if the actor “continues with his violent behavior, he could get the ax from the show.” Considering the facts that this past Thursday’s episode was filmed way before March 15th when Short allegedly beat the brakes off a man at a bar….and that his character was seemingly put into a comatose state this week..let’s just say it ain’t looking to swell for old Harrison right about now! Porsha Williams may be on the chopping block for the next season of “Real Housewives of Atlanta.” According to TMZ, the reality star broke Bravo’s zero-tolerance policy after she initiated a brawl with castmate Kenya Moore at the show’s reunion taping. As we reported earlier, the Porsha lost her temper and attacked the former beauty queen while filming on Thursday, March 27. Sources said the incident started because “Kenya brought sex toys to the reunion taping to taunt Porsha about Kordell’s sexuality.” “And she couldn’t take it anymore,” the eyewitness told Radar Online. “Porsha beat the sh*t out of her! She is a little thing and she jumped on her and pulled her down to the ground by her hair, and Kenya doesn’t have a weave, it is all her own hair.” According to reports, the newly-divorced housewife has yet to be fired but Bravo executives are considering the option. “They just shot the reunion. A lot of conversations have to happen, so no decisions have been made yet,” the insider told Radar. “Porsha was upset. No one wanted that to happen.” “Obviously it’s not good what she did. It’s not the sort of thing that any parties want,” the source added. “The women were embarrassed. No one wants this sort of thing to happen, but the thing is with the reunions, they’re not going to make a decision today.” http://www.blackamericaweb.com
According to WCVB, Love & Hip Hop Atlanta star Benzino’s 36-year-old nephew, Gai Scott has been charged with his shooting earlier today. Plymouth County District Attorney Timothy J. Cruz said in a statement, “There has been growing family tension between Raymond Scott (Benzino) and Gai Scott. The two were heading toward St. Peter’s Church in Plymouth for the funeral of Raymond Scott’s mother. At some point when the cars were side by side, Gai Scott fired several shots into the red Dodge SUV being driven by Raymond Scott. Raymond Scott got out of his SUV and was taken to the Duxbury Police station by a passerby and then to a local hospital. There was no immediate word on his condition. Gai Scott was arrested by Plymouth police and charged with assault with intent to murder.” Gai Scott will be arraigned Monday in Plymouth District Court. Boston Globe is also reporting that Father William Williams of St. Peter’s Church in Plymouth, where the funeral procession was headed from Quincy, said that the family arrived at the church late but that the funeral was held. Allegedly when Father Williams looked out of the church to see the funeral procession arrive he saw blood smudges on the limousine and the hearse. Said Father Williams, “The family was upset but did not speak about the shooting.” There is no word yet from Benzino’s camp, VH1 or Mona Scott Young but some pictures have been posted of Benzino in the hospital by Love & Hip Hop Atlanta Co-star Shay on Instagram. http://www.blackamericaweb.com
In the March 31 issue of the New Yorker, Kobe Bryant discussed life, race and the inevitable conclusion of his illustrious basketball career with Ben McGrath. Perhaps most shocking is Bryant’s assertion that wide-spread support for Trayvon Martin was premature and he refused to show support for the slain teen simply because he’s African American. According to Colorlines, when McGrath asked Bryant’s opinion on the Miami Heat’s show of solidarity with Martin in the now iconic “Hoodie” photo, the 35-year-old L.A. Laker said that such a move showed lack of “progress”: I won’t react to something just because I’m supposed to, because I’m an African-American,” he said. “That argument doesn’t make any sense to me. So we want to advance as a society and a culture, but, say, if something happens to an African-American we immediately come to his defense? Yet you want to talk about how far we’ve progressed as a society? Well, we’ve progressed as a society, then don’t jump to somebody’s defense just because they’re African-American. You sit and you listen to the facts just like you would in any other situation, right? So I won’t assert myself.” The profile goes on to quote former NFL running back Jim Brown, who at one point said, “[Kobe] is somewhat confused about culture, because he was brought up in another country.” Bryant then defended himself on Twitter, writing, “A ‘Global’ African American is an inferior shade to ‘American’ African American?? #hmmm. that doesn’t sound very #Mandela or #DrKing sir.” http://blackamericaweb.com/
(CBS) – Heads up Oprah fans: Ms. Winfrey and friends are hitting the stage, announcing an eight city arena tour across America this fall.
Each city, from San Jose to Miami, will feature a two day Oprah event. But some fans may notice something missing on this tour: Chicago.
In downtown Toronto Monday, fans started lining up at dawn to get a preview of the kind of huge arena shows she has planned.
Like the Canadian show, Winfrey plans to showcase spiritual life coaches like Deepak Chopra, inspirational authors and gurus to advise people on how to achieve their fullest potential.
Tickets for the arena shows will be $99 apiece and $999 for a meet and greet with Oprah, but you won’t see her in Chicago.
Chicago Oprah fan K.C. White is surprised Oprah won’t have a Chicago show.
“It’s her city, why wouldn’t she?” said White.
Says her organization, “Oprah would love to go everywhere but the decision was made to go where audiences have never had a chance to experiencean Oprah show.”
Radio talkers Roe and Roeper say they won’t miss the talk show legend here.
“If you’ve got $999 to spend for a meet and greet with Oprah, you don’t need to go to a seminar to find out how to live your life, cause you’re doing darn well already,” said Richard Roeper.
Sharon Goede, a tourist from Cleveland, said, “I think the people of Chicago have found their inner selves. She’s done a good job of cultivating that here.”
Sharon was disappointed that Oprah wouldn’t be coming to Cleveland either.
MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) — Joe Brown gained fame by meting out justice as a TV judge. Now he’s the one facing charges.
Brown, the star of the television show “Judge Joe Brown” and present-day political candidate, has a court hearing April 4 in Tennessee on his challenge of contempt of court charges handed down Monday by a Shelby County Juvenile Court magistrate.
Brown, 66, was arrested and sentenced to five days in jail during an outburst in a child support hearing before Juvenile Court Magistrate Judge Harold “Hal” Horne. Brown was later released from jail by a Circuit Court judge who will hear arguments next week about dropping the charges and sentence, Brown’s lawyer said Tuesday.
Brown, whose nationally syndicated TV show was canceled last year, is running in the Democratic primary for district attorney general in Shelby County, Tennessee’s largest county. Some have described Brown’s outburst as a way to gain publicity for his campaign, while others say the magistrate should not have locked up Brown, a former criminal court judge in Memphis.
In an interview aired Wednesday on ABC’s “Good Morning America,” Brown said his actions were not out of line and he would do the same thing again.
Brown said most lawyers would say “that’s what we do every single day.”
During Monday’s Juvenile Court session, Brown said he was representing a woman who appeared before Horne on a paternity warrant, according to Dan Michael, the juvenile court’s chief magistrate.
Horne had set a future hearing for the woman, but Brown was pushing for dismissal of the case.
In audio provided by the Juvenile Court, Brown repeatedly challenged the magistrate’s authority and Horne threatened to find Brown in contempt. Magistrates are appointed by the elected Juvenile Court judge. Brown continued questioning Horne’s authority with a raised voice, and Horne made good on his threat.
Brown then offered to pay a fine by pulling out cash.
“Now you want to get into this, let’s get into it. This sorry operation needs to stop,” Brown told Horne.
Horne replied: “Twenty-four hours, Shelby County jail for contempt.”
Brown kept arguing, calling the court a “circus.” By the time the exchange was over, Horne had slapped Brown with five contempt charges and ordered his arrest.
His lawyers petitioned for his release on his own recognizance. Brown was let out of jail around 7 p.m. after spending about three hours inside.
Brown’s lawyer, Taylor Eskridge, says the charges and the sentence were not lawful. She said the outburst was not a planned publicity stunt.
“I don’t think he had any way to know that somebody would put him in jail,” Eskridge said. “This took us all by surprise.”
Brown was a judge in Memphis before leaving to dedicate himself to the TV show. His move to run for district attorney has brought out supporters like Julian Bolton, an attorney and former County Commissioner.
Bolton criticized Horne for sentencing Brown to jail.
“It was just preposterous and just insulting,” Bolton said. “They could have just made him leave the courtroom.”
Michael said the magistrate has the authority to maintain decorum in the courtroom and those who disrupt the process are disrespecting the system.
“What I’m trying to get everybody to understand is that this isn’t Hollywood, this is a real courthouse,” Michael said. “These are real cases involving real people with very serious problems.”
If Brown wins the Democratic primary, he will challenge incumbent District Attorney General Amy Weirich, a Republican and career prosecutor.
Weirich’s campaign chairman, Lang Wiseman, said Brown knows how to conduct himself respectfully in a courtroom, but he chose not to do so with his “stunt.”
“You’ve got to wonder, based on what happened yesterday, whether Joe Brown is able to differentiate between real life and TV,” Wiseman said. “It’s not ratings week.” http://blackamericaweb.com/
Robin Thicke claims his estranged wife Paula Patton was moved by his public pleas to win her back after she left him in mid February. Thicke, who made several public appeals to his wife during his concerts, tells People.com, “My music is very honest about what I’m going through and my songs are about my life. And my relationship with her was 21 years of my life, so I just thought it was important to me to let people know how much she means to me… She loved it (the speeches). She thought it was the sweetest thing and very romantic, and I’ve always been a romantic guy that way.” Thicke goes on to insist both he and Patton, who is the mother of his young son, Julian, are “happy” and the breakdown of his marriage has actually inspired him to write new music. “We’re both doing well. We’re both very happy right now – much happier,” he said. “Everything about this moment in my life – this amazing year I just had and what I’m going through personally – has actually ignited some of the best writing I’ve done in a long time.” Thicke also hints that he will detail his marital problems in his new songs: “Whatever everybody’s wondering about, they’re going to hear it all in the album.” http://blackamericaweb.com/
Though Tameka “Tiny” Cottle is looking good these days after an “it’s about time” makeunder, some people just can’t stay out of the woman’s business. Here’s Tiny on The Wendy Wiliams Show just trying to promote Season 4 of the so-called modern day Cosby reality show T.I. and Tiny: The Family Hustle (the crew even did a Cosby-style promo for the show) and all Wendy Williams wanted to know is are she and Tip still together and how much personal “enhancement” she’s had.
Interestingly enough, though, Tiny was not wearing her wedding ring on The Wendy Williams Show, leading of course, to instant speculation about her current marital status.
She says the couple isn’t divorcing. Do you believe it? Is Wendy being too daggone shaaady?
